LABOR DAY U-13 TOURNAMENT IS COMPLETED SUCCESSFULLY
SCYCA completed another successful tournament in U-13 category at Tustin Columbus Park on September 1st, 2019. Four teams from San Diego, San Ramon (Northern California), Los Angeles and Orange county participated in 2-day tournament. Four teams played three matches / team in round robin format, before qualifying for the play-offs. San Diego Youth Cricket Association won the championship showcasing a nail-biting encounter. San Ramon Cricket Association took the runners-up trophy home.
Shantha, Chairman SCYCA addressing the presentation ceremony thanked all teams, umpires, and SCYCA board who worked tirelessly to make this event a great success. Shantha highlighted the proposed dedicated cricket filed at OC Great Park and expressed that such facilities can be used for league matches, upcoming USA national tournament and possibility of playing high profile games, if cricket will be part of Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony Irvine City Council member, Farrah Khan revealed that discussions are in progress to provide two cricket fields at OC Great Park and a possibility of a cricket Stadium at the same location in future. She was amazed by the enthusiasm, skill level and the competitiveness that she witnessed at the filed. She recognized girl players and encouraged more girls’ participation.
