School Cricket Programs

Are you interested in getting cricket started in your school?

SCYCA OFFERS FREE INITIAL INSTRUCTION FOR ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOLS
We will donate a cricket set to your program after demonstrating the basics to your players and coaches or PE instructors.

Cricket is the world’s second-most popular sport, played in over 100 countries. It is one of the fastest growing sports in the US, with school systems in Maryland and New York now teaching the game and fielding teams. Cricket is a bat and ball game, like baseball, that helps develop hand-eye coordination, speed, agility, and strategic thinking. As with other organized games, players also build sportsmanship and camaraderie. Cricket is easy and fun to play. You can easily incorporate the game into your sports program to provide students with something completely new, and to give students who may already have some exposure the chance to bring their skills to school.

Our schools program will supply all necessary cricket equipment and initial instruction, so your students can start playing without start-up time or expense. Cricket is the perfect game for group instruction and is easily adaptable to your space and the number of players. It can be played indoors or outside, on a basketball court, asphalt or grass. It allows instructor to observe students both as individual participants and as part of a team. Cricket possesses the unique potential to appeal to all athletes, not just those who are typically large, strong, or fast. Cricket rewards patience, technique and intelligence. This encourages all children to participate.

Responses to our introductory program

“Our fifth and sixth grade scholars at Gauer Elementary School in the Anaheim City School District benefitted greatly from their exposure to the game of cricket. Shantha Suraweera and Priyanga De Silva shared their passion for the game through a well-organized and inspirational presentation. They also guided a group of scholars to play the game for the first time while their peers cheered them on. The donated cricket equipment that they left behind will ensure that our scholars’ mastery of the game of cricket will continue to grow. And, to my delight, the two coaches have expressed a willingness to come back and support our teachers’ endeavors to make cricket a part of our physical education program. Gauer School gives our sincere thanks to these two volunteers, as well as to the U.S. Youth Cricket Association! “ Dr. Debbie Schroeder, Principal– Gauer Elementary School.
