The Memorial Day tournament, organized by the San Diego Cricket Association, concluded with SCYCA (Southern California Youth Cricket Academy) showcasing exceptional talent and team spirit. The three-day event, held from May 25-27, featured fierce competition among 8 U-12 teams and 4 U-14 teams vying for championship titles.

 

U-12 Category: SCYCA Clinches Championship

SCYCA’s U-12 team displayed dominance and resilience throughout the tournament. Unbeaten in the round robin stage among the 4 teams in Group B, SCYCA’s journey to the finals was marked by consistent performances and strategic gameplay.
 

In the final match against SDCCYA Warriors, the Warriors won the toss and chose to bat first. Despite a shaky start, SCYCA’s Aarav A. stabilized the innings with a crucial 31 runs off 36 balls. The middle order then took charge, with Aryan A. and Akshay N. forming a formidable partnership. Aryan A. scored a magnificent 63* off 34 balls, while Akshay N. added 34 runs off 31 balls, setting a commanding total for SCYCA.

 

Throughout the tournament, SCYCA’s batting lineup was led by the impressive Arora brothers. Aryan A. scored 176 runs, including a century and a half-century, and Aarav A. contributed with two half-centuries. Other notable performances included Ahan S., Akshay N., and Devika S., who all played pivotal roles in posting competitive scores.

On the bowling front, Aarav A., Rishaan A., Aditya N., Aradhanaa R., and Akshay N. each took over 4 wickets, while Ahan S. and Aarav A. excelled in fielding with 5 catches each. Aryan Arora was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament, with Aarav Arora securing the second spot.

 

U-14 Category: SCYCA Emerges Runner-Up

In the U-14 category, SCYCA’s team also performed admirably, finishing second in the round robin stage. In the final match, SCYCA won the toss and elected to bowl first. Chasing a target of 151 runs, SCYCA started strong with an opening partnership between Kian S. and Anerva A. contributing 27 runs in 5.1 overs. However, the middle and lower order struggled to maintain the momentum, and the team was bowled out for 112 runs, falling short by 39 runs.
 

Despite the final match setback, SCYCA’s U-14 players had notable performances throughout the tournament. Aryav J., Anerva A., Kian S., and Taran W. consistently contributed with the bat, with Aryav scoring a crucial half-century. Bowlers Adit J. and Neel M. were standout performers, taking 8 and 4 wickets respectively.

 

The Memorial Day tournament was a testament to SCYCA’s dedication and skill in youth cricket. Their U-12 team’s championship victory and U-14 team’s runner-up finish highlight the academy’s strength in nurturing young cricket talent.
